Gallup: Optimism among Small Business Owners at Post-Recession High

The most recent Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index reveals that optimism is at its highest point since the third quarter of 2008.  While the optimism scores are still well below the pre-recession levels, it represents a significant uptick that may indicate that as the economy continues its slow recovery so will small businesses across the country.  Several factors contributed to the positive sentiment among small business owners including:

  • Improved cash flow
  • An increase in hiring
  • Increasing revenue
  • Less difficulty in accessing credit

Despite the increase in positive sentiment, small business owners expressed a variety of familiar concerns when asked what challenges their business faces.

Notable challenges include:

  • Finding new business (21%)
  • The economy (11%)
  • Government regulations (11%)
  • Hiring (8%)
  • Healthcare (8%)
