American Insights’ recent statewide poll of 611 North Carolina registered voters finds that Senator Kay Hagan’s approval is currently negative, but within the poll’s margin of error. 37% of voters approve of the job Kay Hagan is doing as US Senator, while 39% disapprove. Behind those topline numbers, the strength of sentiment regarding the Senator paints a more troubling picture for her. 27% strongly disapprove of the job she is doing, while only 15% strongly approve, a negative 12 point margin on intensity. 20% of voters are undecided on the Senator’s job performance.
Among Independent voters, Senator Hagan suffers a 16 point approval deficit. While 28% of Independents approve of her performance, 44% disapprove. Hagan’s net approval is within the poll’s three point margin of error among all age groups except older voters 65 and over who disapprove by a margin of 9 points, 36% approval to 45% disapproval. Women are near evenly split in assessing the Senator’s performance in office, 38% to 36%, but men register disapproval by a 6 point margin, 36% to 42%.
